Naipunnya means in Sanskrit expertise or mastery. Naipunnya aims at professionalism, discipline and holistic development of the student. The institute is unique in its approach towards professionalism whereby all get a platform to refine and mould their talents. Expansion of knowledge is an ongoing process here. Today Naipunnya has become synonymous with academic and professional excellence.

Naipunnya School of Management Cherthala is a unique project of the Major Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly, started in 2003 under the visionary leadership of His Excellency Mar Thomas Chakiath. Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kalapurackal was the first Director. The Major Archbishop His Beatitude Mar Raphael Thattil is the chief patron of Naipunnya group while Mar Joseph Pamplaniyil is the co-Patron.

Naipunnya Group of Institutions consist of six major institutions including NSM Cherthala. The others are Naipunnya Institute of Management and Information Technology Koratty (Autonomous), affiliated to the University of Calicut, Naipunnya Public School Kochi (CBSE), Naipunnya Public School Angamaly (CBSE), Naipunnya International- Civil Services Academy (Kochi) and Naipunnya Welfare Services (Ernakulam).

Rev. Fr. Dr. Benny John Maramparampil serves as the Executive Director and Principal of NSM from March 2026.  Rev. Fr. Ancil Maipan serves as the Joint Director while Rev. Fr. Ginu Chethimattam is the Assistant Executive Director.

In 2023, Naipunnya College was accredited with an A grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). In 2024, NSM received approval from the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for the technical and professional courses. UGC acknowledged Naipunnya College under Section 2(f) of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act of 1956, affirming our adherence to the highest educational standards.
